New From the Society
We hope this message finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy. The Milwaukee Classical Guitar Society is adapting to continue to provide inspiring educational and musical experiences to our community. Both the community and musicians need support now more than ever due to the enormous impact of COVID-19 on the arts community worldwide.
Upcoming Virtual Concerts
This is the time for our 4th annual fundraiser. This year, our goal is to raise funds to support virtual concerts, virtual educational programming for school children and the community, scholarships for those who would struggle financially to participate in our events, and virtual outreach to the community through guitar greeting videos. We are excited to present some virtual concerts coming soon. Grammy-winning guitarist, Jason Vieaux, will debut our major artist series on October 17th with a concert and QA session. Two more superb upcoming events will feature local guitarists Emma Bo Peng this November 7th, and Ben Dameron on February 12th of next year.
Our members have also provided the community with guitar greeting videos personalized to the recipient to celebrate birthdays and love, express appreciation and condolences, and to support one another during these difficult times. We are confident that by supporting our connection to the community through high-quality initiatives like these, you can help lift spirits of many people in unusually difficult times.
Move For Music Fundraiser
The health and safety of all fundraiser participants is our highest priority. This year, we will Move for Music, and for your own health. On Sunday, October 4th, at 9 am, we encourage you to Move for Music by finding your own route to safely go for a walk, ride your bike, paddle a kayak or whatever other form of movement you prefer, wearing your Milwaukee Classical Guitar Society t-shirt that is included with registration. Choose your own route anywhere in the world with anyone. It might be around your neighborhood, at a local park, or at a state park, for example. Following this movement, registrants can tune in for a brief video highlighting some of our initiatives, followed by a virtual concert and QA session by Rene Izquierdo featuring Cuban music from his new, and highly acclaimed, release, Cuba en el Alma.
Each registration for the Move for Music fundraiser includes:
-A Milwaukee Classical Guitar Society t-shirt (register 1 week before fundraiser to receive it in time for Move for Music)
-Access to video highlighting some of our initiatives
-Virtual CD release party by Rene Izquierdo, featuring a 30-minute Cuban concert and QA session thereafter
Donors who exceed $100 will also receive
-Free access to Jason Vieaux virtual concert with QA session on October 17.
